Discipline Procedures
General information concerning our school discipline procedures is published in the Student Handbook. In Grade Seven, these procedures will be in place for effort and conduct grades.
Effort grades will be based on a point system. The homeroom teacher will deduct points for infractions including, but not limited to, the following:
• Missing homework assignments.
• Unsigned tests, quizzes or alternative assessments.
• Lack of preparation for class.
Students will also be given a conduct grade each trimester. Demerits will affect conduct grades. Please refer to the Student Handbook.
Schedule
Grade Seven is part of our Middle School Unit, along with Grade Eight, which follows a seven period schedule. Students will be divided randomly into two roster groups which will differ from homeroom groups.
There will be two resource periods per week which can be used for written homework, makeup work, and to complete projects. From time to time, teachers will use these periods to make up class time missed due to a holiday or schedule change. Teachers do inform the students of changes in advance. The resource period, however, will not provide sufficient time for all homework and study to be completed, so students must plan accordingly.
Long Term Assignments
While students will be encouraged to become more independent and responsible for their own work, they still will be in need of their parents’ aid with regard to deadlines. Long term assignments will be accompanied by a scoring rubric and set of directions which are given to the students when the project is assigned.
Make-Up Work For Absentees
Individual teachers will inform students for their policy regarding make-up tests. A student will be encouraged to speak to the teachers if he/she is aware of an upcoming absence in advance. Make-up work for all absences, but particularly for extended absences due to illness, will be scheduled in a timely, reasonable manner and will adhere to the school’s policy. Absences which are not due to illness should be limited.
Homework
Teachers will post nightly homework and long term assignments on the website E Board . The students can access this site to get up-to-date assignments in the event of an absence or if their assignment book has been misplaced. This site is not intended, however, to replace the student’s responsibility to write down his/her homework in the assignment book. Assignments posted on schoolnotes.com will be available by 5:00 PM.
Communication
Teachers may be contacted any time via e-mail or phone. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers with any questions or concerns.
