SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

The OLMC  School Scholastic Book Fair, a reading event packed with excitement for students and families, will take place year from Monday  January 23 to Friday January 27.  All classes will visit the book fair during their weekly library period.  The Book Fair will also be open during the Catholic Schools Week Open House ; Sunday January 29, 3:45-4:45 PM   Brochures detailing just some of this year’s books available have been sent home in the Carmel Capsule.  Parents should send money in for primary students in an envelope with name and homeroom.  Checks should be made out to OLMC School and credit cards are accepted.

The Book Fair theme is Book Fair Luau – making this an event that brings the books kids love to our school in an atmosphere of fun.

A Book Fair connects students with books at affordable prices and makes reading a positive experience. Children are more likely to read the books they personally get to choose. It’s one of the best ways to motivate kids to read more. The more time children spend reading, the stronger their reading skills get. And strong reading skills are the pathway to succeed in school and in life. Reading is the most powerful skill of all!

Please join us to make this Book Fair the BEST our school has ever seen. See you at the Fair! (January 23)

SPELLING BEE FOR GRADES 4-6

Due to the recent changes in the schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, it has been difficult to secure information about this year’s Spelling Bee.  In order to give our students time for adequate preparation, we are publishing the probable list (last year’s, actually) for them to begin to study if they wish.  If the OCE does not hold a competition this year, then we will have a school wide affair here at OLMC.  Good luck, everyone! OUR GRATITUDE TO ALL WHO HAVE SUPPORTED US THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

The mood of all who attended the meeting last Friday to learn of the Blue Ribbon Commission’s findings was somber.  Together, we shared the sadness of those whose schools were closing or being merged, and prayed for God’s blessing on their sacrifice and sorrow.  At the same time, our parish was grateful that, based on its strength and viability, our school was judged to be sustainable, and will remain as one of the seven parish schools in Bucks County.  Thanks to the members of our school and parish communities—past and present—for their support that has made our future possible.  Our task ahead is to work to maintain and/or increase the rigor of our religious and academic programs, effectively manage our strategic plan, and develop our marketing and fundraising initiatives.  (January 13, 2012)

GEOGRAPHY BEE

On Tuesday afternoon, January 10th, the ten finalists gathered to participate in our school’s Geography Bee which is sponsored by National Geographic.  They participated in several rounds of questions that reflected information of the regions of the world.  At the end of the competition, First, Second and Third Place winners were nominated. VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK

To appreciate vocations to all walks of life, we prayed our Vocations Prayer every morning during the week of January 9, which is Vocations Awareness Week.  At our Friday morning Mass, we used the Proper for vocation and prayed again the Vocations Prayer.  (January 13, 2012)
